The EU Discusses Ways to Support Sustainable Development in Yemen

Ambassador Patrick Simonnet, the European Union (EU) Ambassador to Yemen, visited the headquarters of the “Selah Foundation for Development” in the city of Mukalla, where he was received by the Foundation’s Executive Director, Ali Hassan Bashmakh, and a number of its leaders.

During the visit, the two sides discussed ways to “enhance the existing partnership between the EU and the Selah Foundation,” and discussed opportunities for cooperation in implementing new projects that serve development priorities in Yemen.

They also reviewed the “current joint projects,” foremost among them the “MOVE Project,” which was launched in October 2025, in addition to a number of humanitarian and development programs being implemented in various governorates.

The meeting addressed the prospects for future cooperation between the two parties, in a way that contributes to “raising the efficiency of development initiatives and enhancing their sustainability” in vital sectors that directly affect citizens’ lives.

During the meeting, Ambassador Simonnet praised the efforts of the Selah Foundation and its prominent role in implementing “development projects and humanitarian assistance,” affirming the EU’s commitment to expanding the scope of partnership with competent and experienced national institutions on the ground.

For his part, Ali Bashmakh welcomed the EU delegation, praising the Union’s support for development projects in Yemen, and confirming that the Foundation constantly seeks to “develop its international relations” to enhance sustainable development opportunities and serve local communities.

At the conclusion of the visit, the Selah Foundation presented a commemorative shield to His Excellency Ambassador Patrick Simonnet in appreciation of the EU’s efforts and continuous support for development programs in Yemen.

The meeting was attended by Khaled Bakhraisa, the Foundation’s Partnerships Officer, and Ms. Muna Al-Ammari, Director of the MOVE Project, along with a number of department managers at the Selah Foundation for Development.
