Taiz Loses One of Its Most Prominent Preachers: Sheikh Mamdouh Al-Himyari Dies of a Sudden Heart Attack After Friday Sermon

An atmosphere of sadness and shock enveloped the city of Taiz (southwest Yemen) today, Friday, following the announcement of the death of the well-known preacher and cleric, Sheikh Mamdouh Al-Himyari, the Khatib (preacher) of Al-Issai Mosque. He passed away due to a sudden heart attack that afflicted him just a few hours after delivering his final sermon.
According to sources close to the deceased’s family, Sheikh Al-Himyari performed the Friday prayer and sermon as usual, and then returned home where he ate lunch and then settled down for a short nap. However, his family members were surprised, upon trying to wake him, to find that he had peacefully passed away in his bed.
Sheikh Mamdouh Al-Himyari was considered one of the prominent religious figures in Taiz governorate. He was known for his bold and influential sermons that touched upon community issues, national reform, and social justice, which earned him widespread respect and great affection among the city’s residents.
A number of worshippers who attended his last sermon observed that the Sheikh was calm and full of serenity during the sermon, showing no signs of fatigue or exhaustion, a fact that made the news of his death deeply painful in religious and social circles in Taiz.
With the passing of Sheikh Al-Himyari, Taiz loses one of the most prominent voices from the pulpits calling for reform and community awareness. Condolences continue to pour in from various figures and entities who mourned him with touching words, praying to God to cover him with His vast mercy and grant him paradise.
