Forces Affiliated with The STC Arrest Writer Ahmed Humeedan in Aden

Local sources reported on Tuesday that security forces affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Aden arrested the writer Ahmed Nasser Humeedan (74 years old), along with the former Director General of Al-Buraiqah District and head of the Civil Democratic Movement, Hani Al-Yazidi.

The sources explained that the arrest coincided with peaceful demonstrations organized by a number of city residents demanding the improvement of basic services, noting that the security forces used live ammunition to disperse the protesters and prevented them from continuing their protest.

The writer and politician Ahmed Humeedan is one of the well-known journalistic voices in Aden, and has a weekly column on the “Yemen Monitor” website since 2016, in which he addresses political and social issues concerning public affairs and the living reality of citizens.

His arrest has caused widespread concern in human rights and media circles, which have called for his immediate release, along with Al-Yazidi and all detainees, and for guaranteeing citizens’ right to peacefully express their demands without restriction or violation.
