Rights Network: Over 1,000 Abductions Carried Out by Houthis Against September Celebrants

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms has revealed a heavy toll of violations committed by the Houthis against citizens during the celebrations of the September 26 Revolution anniversary, documenting 1,063 cases of abduction and enforced disappearance across several provinces under the armed group’s control.

According to a report issued by the network, last year saw 450 abductions, while this year 613 cases of abduction and enforced disappearance were recorded in Sana’a, the Capital Secretariat, Hajjah, Amran, al-Dhalea, Dhamar, Ibb, Saada, al-Mahwit, and al-Hudaidah.

The report noted that this September alone witnessed 123 home raids targeting citizens for attempting to commemorate the revolution or raise the national flag — which the network described as evidence of the militia’s escalating campaign of repression around every national occasion.

The network pointed out that abductions often occur on public roads, in markets, or even in mosques, where victims are forced to hand over their phones and identity papers before being taken to unknown detention sites. Dozens of families still remain unaware of the fate of their loved ones.

The network stressed that such practices reflect a state of hysteria and fear experienced by the Houthi militia whenever national celebrations approach. It held the group fully responsible for the lives and safety of the abductees, calling on the international community to act urgently to stop these repeated violations.
