International Committee of The ICRC Warns of Continued Civilian Suffering in Yemen and Calls for De-Escalation

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) affirmed that civilians in Yemen continue to pay a heavy price as hostilities persist, suffering the loss of loved ones and the ongoing deterioration of vital civilian infrastructure.

This came in a statement issued by the ICRC, warning that the humanitarian situation requires “a pause in hostilities, not an endless spiral of escalation,” and stressing the urgent need to spare civilians and their essential facilities from the consequences of fighting.

The statement explained that the ICRC’s commitment to assisting those affected by the conflict remains ongoing, including support for the overstretched health sector. In this context, on September 25, the ICRC delivered a medical kit to health facilities in Sana’a to help doctors treat the wounded.

The ICRC also reiterated the legal obligations under international humanitarian law, which “require constant care to spare civilians and vital civilian objects from the effects of military operations,” calling on the parties to the conflict to respect these fundamental principles.
