Minister of Health Chairs Meeting to Prepare for Second Round of Child Immunization Campaign

Yemen Monitor/ Aden:

The Minister of Public Health and Population, Qasem Buhaibeh, chaired an expanded meeting of the National Coordination Committee for Health Emergency Response today, Thursday, in the interim capital, Aden.

The meeting, attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Primary Healthcare, Ali Al-Walidi, and representatives from relevant bodies, focused on the ongoing preparations for the second round of the polio immunization campaign scheduled to launch next week.

Discussions highlighted the pivotal role of the National Center for Health Education and Information in preparation, community awareness, and comprehensive mobilization to ensure all target groups are reached.

The attendees also addressed the current epidemiological situation and its geographical distribution, reviewing technical indicators and data related to the upcoming campaign and its target age groups. The goal is to enhance the efficiency of field performance and achieve the highest possible coverage rates.

The committee also followed up on previous assignments and their implementation, and discussed current operational costs to ensure the campaigns continue without obstacles and meet the demands of field work.

Minister Buhaibeh stressed the importance of synergizing efforts across all relevant sectors and enhancing coordination and integration among the components of the National Committee for Emergency Response. This synergy, he noted, is vital for the success of the second campaign round and strengthens Yemen’s efforts to eradicate polio.

Buhaibeh emphasized that the Ministry gives these campaigns “absolute priority,” as they represent a fundamental shield to protect future generations from the risk of the disease.

He called on all official, community, and media entities to double their efforts in awareness and education to ensure the vaccine reaches every child in all targeted areas.
