Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate has condemned the abduction of journalist Majed Zayed, who was targeted by the Houthi group yesterday evening as he was leaving a medical center on Khawlan Street in Sana’a, Yemen.
The syndicate demanded the immediate release of Zayed, who suffers from health issues, as well as writer Auras Al-Iryani, who was also abducted yesterday evening.
The syndicate also renewed its call for the release of nine other journalists who have been held in Houthi detention in Sana’a for years. These include:
- Mohammed Al-Miyahi, abducted last September.
- Walid Ghaleb, deputy head of the syndicate’s branch in Hudaidah, detained since last May.
- Hassan Ziyad, a journalist.
- Photographers Abdul-Jabbar Ziyad and Abdul-Aziz Al-Noum.
- Media activists Assem Mohammed and Abdul-Majeed Al-Zaylai.
The syndicate also called for the release of journalist Naseh Shaker, who has been detained in Aden since November 2023.
Finally, the syndicate urged organizations concerned with freedom of opinion and expression, particularly the International Federation of Journalists and the Federation of Arab Journalists, to continue their efforts to show solidarity and apply pressure to secure the release of all Yemeni journalists and to stop the ongoing violations against them.
