Yemeni Diplomacy in New York: Al-Zindani Discusses “Path to Peace” with Cairo and Muscat

Yemen Monitor / New York – Exclusive:

Yemeni Foreign Minister Dr. Shaea Al-Zindani met in New York with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The meetings focused on strengthening bilateral relations and discussing security and economic challenges in the region, particularly in light of ongoing Houthi attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea.

During his meeting with his Egyptian counterpart, Al-Zindani emphasized the deep historical ties between the two countries, expressing the Yemeni government’s aspiration to resume strategic dialogue and activate the work of joint committees. This move aims to boost cooperation across various fields, including encouraging investments and joint economic projects that would help support Yemen’s war-torn economy.

The meeting also addressed regional developments, chiefly the Houthi attacks on Red Sea navigation, which pose a direct threat to global trade and economic stability in the region. Both sides agreed on the need to continue consultation and coordination with other countries—foremost among them Saudi Arabia—to provide the necessary support to the Yemeni government in confronting these security challenges and overcoming the economic crisis.

In his meeting with the Omani foreign minister, Al-Zindani discussed bilateral relations and the latest developments in Yemen. He praised the fraternal ties binding the two countries, stressing the importance of resuming the work of the joint committee to strengthen cooperation in various areas.

For his part, the Omani minister reaffirmed his country’s full support for efforts aimed at achieving reconciliation, peace, and stability in Yemen. These talks come within the context of Oman’s role as a key mediator in peace efforts, underscoring the importance of continued coordination between the two countries in addressing current challenges.

These high-level meetings on the sidelines of the UN sessions come at a critical time, as Yemen’s internationally recognized government seeks to rally regional and international support to face mounting challenges. While the security threat in the Red Sea remains a top priority, the need for economic support and political coordination with regional partners such as Egypt and Oman are pressing to restore stability in Yemen.
