Al-Alimi Puts Peace and the Houthis on the Table Before World Leaders in New York

Yemen Monitor / New York / Special Report:
Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Chairman, Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, arrived in New York on Monday at the head of a high-level delegation—including Council members Aidarous Al-Zubaidi and Abdullah Al-Alimi—to participate in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
President Al-Alimi is scheduled to deliver Yemen’s address before world leaders and representatives, in which he will outline the latest developments on both the domestic and regional fronts and request international support for the efforts of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to achieve stability.
According to diplomatic sources, Al-Alimi’s speech will focus on the Council’s and the government’s vision for achieving a “just and comprehensive peace” in Yemen, while stressing the need to deter “shared threats.”
He is expected to address in detail the violations committed by the armed Houthi group and their negative repercussions on international peace and security.
On the sidelines of the UN meetings, the Yemeni delegation will hold a series of high-level talks with several heads of participating delegations to discuss Yemen’s humanitarian and economic situation.
The agenda will also cover discussions on the risks of continued Iranian arms flows to the Houthis and the escalation of their terrorist activities, as well as efforts to counter other terrorist organizations. The meetings will further explore ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Yemen and friendly nations across various fields.
