Deputy Director of Taiz Cleaning Fund Resigns in Solidarity with Murdered Colleague

Yemen Monitor / Taiz / Exclusive:

Irtifa Al-Qubati, the Deputy Director of the Hygiene and Improvement Fund in Taiz Governorate, has resigned from her position in a show of solidarity with her colleague, Iftihan Al-Mashhari, who was recently assassinated in the city.

In a statement, Al-Qubati justified her decision by citing the absence of security and justice, expressing fear for her own safety as a woman in a leadership role. She stated that Al-Mashhari’s blood must be “the spark that awakens consciences” in the face of the security breakdown.

This resignation comes as Taiz experiences escalating public anger and demands for the perpetrators of Al-Mashhari’s murder to be held accountable and for an end to the state of security chaos in the city.

Earlier on Sunday, thousands of people took part in a large demonstration in Taiz to pressure local authorities and security forces to achieve justice for Iftihan Al-Mashhari and to establish state authority throughout all areas of the city.
