Minister of State and Governor of Aden, Ahmed Lamlas, met today (Friday) with Shao Qi Cheng, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Yemen and China and to revive the sister-city agreement between Aden and Shanghai.
The meeting reviewed the course of historic ties between the two countries and highlighted the importance of developing cooperation in development and public service sectors, as well as building institutional capacity, according to Yemen’s official news agency.
Minister Lamlas praised the distinguished relations between the Republic of Yemen and the People’s Republic of China, reaffirming the Yemeni government’s commitment to deepening its partnership with China and activating the Aden–Shanghai twinning agreement for the benefit of both cities.
For his part, the Chinese official affirmed his country’s readiness to provide the necessary support and to contribute to the development of Aden, enhancing the capacities of its government institutions in order to improve public services and meet citizens’ needs.
The Yemeni delegation also toured the headquarters of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference in Shanghai to learn about the country’s “whole-process democracy” model and mechanisms of consultation and decision-making, as well as visiting the Shanghai History Museum.
