One Killed and 11 Wounded from STC Forces in Twin Bomb Blasts in Southern Yemen

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Abyan Governorate (southern Yemen) witnessed renewed violence on Friday, after a soldier was killed and 11 others from the Southern Transitional Council (STC) forces were wounded when two roadside bombs targeted a military patrol belonging to the Third Support and Reinforcement Brigade in Wadi Omaran, east of Mudiya city.

According to local sources, one of the military vehicles was directly hit by an explosion, followed by another vehicle colliding with it, which magnified the human toll.

A medical source at Lawdar Hospital confirmed the reception of the slain soldier’s body along with 11 wounded, including some in critical condition, who were later transferred to hospitals in Aden for treatment.

The incident recalls similar attacks that have occurred in the same area in recent months, where a number of STC soldiers were killed or wounded in bombings and ambushes, often attributed to Al-Qaeda operatives active in Abyan’s valleys and rugged mountainous areas.

The attack also comes within a series of repeated assaults, the latest of which was last month when one soldier was killed and four others wounded in a roadside bomb targeting a military patrol. Earlier this year, a deadly traffic accident in the city of Zinjibar claimed the lives of three soldiers and injured civilians.
