Heavy Rains Damage More Than 15 Homes East of Taiz

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Heavy rains accompanied by flash floods on Thursday evening damaged more than 15 homes in Al-Haraziya area of Sala District, east of Taiz city, according to local sources.

The sources said that the floods swept through the area’s streets and neighborhoods, causing significant material damage to residents’ homes and property, amid warnings of escalating risks if the rains continue over the coming days.

A community committee in the area indicated that the worsening damage was partly due to some individuals dumping construction waste and soil in the streets, which obstructed rainwater drainage and contributed to the floods bursting toward homes. The committee warned that the disaster could be repeated if urgent measures are not taken to clear water channels and clean the streets.

Taiz city and several other Yemeni regions have been experiencing heavy rains and flash floods in recent days after several months of drought, prompting calls for local authorities to take preventive measures to mitigate the impact of these weather fluctuations.
