A broad meeting was held today in Taiz Governorate, chaired by Deputy Governor for Health Affairs, Ilan Abdulhaq, with the participation of representatives from pharmaceutical and medical supplies companies, to discuss and strengthen the mechanism for regulating and monitoring medicine prices in line with the recent decline in the exchange rate, in implementation of the governor’s directives.
During the meeting — attended by representatives from the local branch of the Supreme Authority for Medicines and the Office of Health and Population — Abdulhaq stressed the importance of reducing medicine prices in proportion to price fluctuations, and preventing any monopolistic practices or price manipulation.
She emphasized the need for an organized mechanism of oversight and control by the Taiz branch of the Supreme Authority for Medicines, in coordination with the Governorate’s Office of Industry and Trade.
The Deputy Governor affirmed the local authority’s determination, under the leadership of the governor, to continue taking firm measures to regulate prices according to market changes, with the aim of alleviating citizens’ suffering.
She also stressed the necessity of intensifying field inspections of all companies, pharmacies, and medical facilities, without exception, to ensure compliance with the reduced selling prices approved by the local branch of the Supreme Authority for Medicines.
At the conclusion of the meeting, it was agreed to obligate pharmacies and drug warehouses to sell medical supplies and medicines according to the exchange rate set by the Central Bank, and to adhere to the reduced prices, with regular field visits by inspection committees to detect and hold violators accountable.
