One million Euro European grant for refugees in Yemen
Yemen Monitor / Marib / Exclusive:
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced that the EU has provided a humanitarian grant of one million Euros to support thousands of refugees and asylum-seekers in Yemen.
In a statement reviewed by Yemen Monitor, the UNHCR said that the funding will support thousands of refugees and asylum-seekers in Yemen, providing them with essential legal protection, necessary documents, and support.
The statement added that Yemen hosts over 60,000 refugees and asylum-seekers, mostly from Somalia, Ethiopia, Syria, Eritrea, Iraq, Sudan, and Palestine.
The ongoing conflict and economic hardship have deprived many of documents, legal assistance, and basic services, exposing them to increased risks of poverty and insecurity.
The UNHCR and its partners will be able to provide legal identity and necessary documents to help refugees and asylum-seekers access education, healthcare, and other essential services, as well as move safely within Yemen.
The funding will provide legal assistance and birth registration for at least 2,500 refugees and asylum-seekers, addressing issues such as rental disputes, detention, and the lack of civil documentation for children.
