On Tuesday, the city of Al-Khoukha in Al-Hudaidah Governorate, western Yemen, hosted a memorial ceremony for Commander Abdulrahman Hijri, one of the most prominent symbols of the Tihama movement and resistance. The event coincided with the official announcement of the Tihama Resistance Political Bureau.
The ceremony was attended by a number of officials and public figures from Al-Hudaidah and Taiz, including military, academic, and judicial leaders, as well as local dignitaries and residents of the region.
In his speech, Al-Hudaidah Governor Al-Hasan Ali Taher highlighted the major role Commander Hijri played in the resistance movement, stating that he was “the free voice of Tihama” and that he continued his struggle until his last days. The governor called on attendees to carry on Hijri’s legacy.
Taher also warned against “attempts to hijack the Tihama cause for monopolistic projects that overlook the sacrifices of its people,” adding, “We will remain loyal to this national Tihama path until dignity and equal citizenship are achieved.”
The event featured a documentary film showcasing key moments from Hijri’s life and his efforts to unite the Tihama ranks and lay the foundation of resistance against the Houthi militia.
The occasion also witnessed the launch of the Tihama Resistance Political Bureau, which organizers described as a platform for the political representation of Tihama’s people and for engaging with various national forces to advocate for the region’s issues.
The founding statement emphasized the importance of “safeguarding the gains of Tihama’s struggle and activating the political role in a way that serves the broader national project.”
The ceremony concluded with national anthems and traditional Tihama chants, in a moment where tears blended with vows, and grief merged with determination — a farewell to a man who was not just a leader, but a national symbol and a living conscience in a time of ashes.
