Local Authority in Taiz Signs Agreement to Drill Artesian Wells to End Water Crisis

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
On Monday, the local authority in Taiz Governorate signed an agreement to implement a project to drill artesian wells in the western part of the city, amid growing public frustration over the worsening water crisis.
According to the official news agency SABA, the local authority signed the agreement with the community committee representing the residents of Meelat Bilad al-Wafi and Wadi Ali Bani Issa sub-districts in Jabal Habashi District. The project falls under the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Water Project funded by the United Arab Emirates.
The agreement—signed by the governor, the local water authority, and Jabal Habashi District officials—includes comprehensive measures to address the delays that previously hindered the project’s completion. The agreement lays out binding terms that must be implemented.
Under the new terms, drilling work has resumed on this strategic water project.
This is the second agreement under the broader project. A previous agreement was signed between the governor, the director of Saber al-Mawadem District, the local water and sanitation authority, and the community committees of the sub-districts of al-Dhubab, Bardaad, and Taluq.
