Houthis Hand Over Body of Sheikh Saleh Hantous to His Family After Executing Him in Raymah

Yemen Monitor | Newsroom:

The Houthi group has handed over the body of Sheikh Saleh Hantous to his family, just hours after detaining and executing him following a targeted shelling of his home in the Al-Salafiyah district of Raymah Governorate.

Sheikh Hantous, aged 70, resisted the Houthi raid to his last breath using his personal weapon, refusing to surrender despite the group’s superior numbers and firepower.

Local sources reported that the Houthis deployed a military convoy to arrest him and shackled him upon arrival. His wife intervened, opening fire in an attempt to free him, which led to her being wounded by return fire.

Sheikh Hantous was a prominent religious and educational figure in Raymah. He spent over four decades teaching and memorizing the Quran and managed a Quranic school until it was shut down by the Houthi militia.

His killing has sparked widespread outrage across Yemen’s governmental, political, and human rights circles, with growing calls for the Houthis to be held accountable for their crimes against Yemeni civilians and respected community leaders.
