The Al-Wadiah Border Post Security and Protection Battalion announced it thwarted a massive drug pill smuggling operation. A total of 1,005,300 pills were meticulously hidden on the roof of a refrigerated truck bound for Saudi Arabia.
A military source within the battalion explained that personnel at the checkpoint known as “Al-Silah checkpoint” were able to seize the suspicious truck thanks to their vigilance and security skills. The source noted that the smuggling attempt involved sophisticated camouflage to avoid detection.
The source added that the truck driver confessed during initial interrogations that the shipment belonged to drug traffickers in the capital, Sana’a. His task was solely to transport it to the Saudi city of Sharurah, where an unknown person was supposed to receive it.
The battalion’s command confirmed that they secured the confiscated items and transferred the driver and the illicit substances to the competent authorities to complete legal procedures.
The source revealed that the Al-Wadiah Border Post Security Battalion, led by Brigadier General Ameer Al-Azab, has foiled several similar smuggling attempts recently. These include: seizing 15,000 Captagon pills, four kilograms of Shabu (methamphetamine), in addition to 27,300 drug pills hidden inside the back door of a passenger bus, and 4,198 pills found in another vehicle.
He also noted that the battalion, in the presence of representatives from both Yemeni and Saudi authorities, previously destroyed two tons of hashish confiscated in a separate operation. Additionally, they secured and handed over another 514 kilograms of hashish.
The battalion’s command warned of the innovative methods used by smuggling networks, such as hiding drugs inside watermelons or in secret compartments within vehicles like spare tires or front seats. They affirmed that the battalion’s personnel will remain on constant alert to protect the country’s security and counter any smuggling attempts, regardless of their methods.
