Sabotage Cuts Power in Marib, Shuts Down Gas Power Plant

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

A sabotage operation on Sunday caused a complete power outage in Marib Governorate after power transmission lines from the gas power plant were targeted, leading to a total shutdown of the facility.

Engineer Abdulhadi bin Jaber, Director of the Public Electricity Corporation in the Marib region, confirmed that the attack targeted 33-kilovolt transmission lines in the Al-Arqin area. He stated that an individual named Mabkhoot Al-Hurr carried out the sabotage by installing an illegal connection on the lines, which directly damaged the network.

Bin Jaber explained that the corporation is preparing to submit an official memorandum to the Public Prosecutor’s Office in preparation for taking legal action against the perpetrator. He also called on citizens to cooperate in protecting the electricity infrastructure and stressed the importance of conserving energy, especially as temperatures rise and demand increases during the summer.

Sabotage acts targeting electricity lines in Marib occur frequently, disrupting power services and burdening residents amid already fragile infrastructure conditions.
