Saudi Arabia Extends “MASAM” Mine Clearance Project in Yemen for Another Year

The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) announced the extension of the “MASAM” project for clearing Yemeni lands of mines for an additional year, with funding of approximately $53 million. This extension continues the humanitarian efforts aimed at protecting civilians from the danger of indiscriminately planted mines.

The project is implemented with Saudi and international expertise through trained Yemeni teams. These teams work to remove all types of mines from affected areas and conduct training programs to enhance local capabilities in this field.

Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of KSrelief, affirmed that the project’s extension comes within the framework of humanitarian responsibility towards the Yemeni people. He noted that “MASAM” is considered one of the significant projects that contributes to saving lives and restoring safety to affected areas.

He explained that mines have caused injuries, amputations, and significant human losses, particularly among women, children, and the elderly. He also pointed out that the project has so far successfully removed over 495,000 mines and projectiles.
