Houthis Ban Sale and Dispensing of Tuberculosis Medications in Private Pharmacies and Facilities

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Houthi group has issued a decision prohibiting the sale or dispensing of tuberculosis (TB) medications outside the framework of the National Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases Control Program—a government-run initiative currently under the group’s control.
In a statement, the Houthi-run Ministry of Health in Sanaa declared that the decision requires all private pharmacies and healthcare facilities to immediately cease the sale or dispensing of TB medications. The ministry warned that any violations would result in strict legal consequences.
The statement added that “the national program and its offices in the provinces and districts are the only entities authorized to distribute TB treatment free of charge, ensuring equitable access to healthcare services and preventing patients from bearing unnecessary financial burdens.”
The ministry emphasized that these measures are part of a broader policy to strengthen the healthcare system and eliminate the corruption and disorder left by previous authorities. It reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding citizens’ health rights by enhancing oversight mechanisms and strictly enforcing the law.
