Taiz Launches Sweeping Security Campaign to Seize Unlicensed Weapons

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
A joint security campaign was launched Thursday evening in the city of Taiz (southwest Yemen) by the local police and military command units. The operation aims to rid residential neighborhoods of unregulated weapons and strengthen efforts to establish security and protect civilians.
The campaign, executed with precise field coordination, focuses on tracking down individuals carrying weapons outside the legal framework and enforcing strict penalties in accordance with official regulations prohibiting the possession of unlicensed firearms.
Security sources confirmed that this initiative responds to the urgent need to safeguard lives and property and to reinforce state authority in urban areas.
In an official statement, the spokesperson for the Taiz police said the campaign is part of a comprehensive plan to normalize security conditions and combat practices that threaten social peace. He noted that joint forces are operating around the clock to ensure the campaign’s objectives are achieved.
Security officials urged citizens to cooperate with the operation and to immediately report any suspected cases of weapons possession or activities that obstruct efforts to restore order. They affirmed that legal action will be taken against anyone found violating firearm regulations.
This campaign is considered the most extensive in recent months, as part of the authorities’ broader efforts to prevent destabilization in a city that has seen gradual improvements in security since the beginning of the year.
