Arab States Welcome U.S.–Houthi Ceasefire, Calling for Enhanced Regional Peace

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Several Arab countries have expressed satisfaction with Muscat’s successful mediation of a ceasefire agreement between the US and the Houthi group, voicing hope that the development will contribute to regional stability and the restoration of international maritime freedom.

Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that, following communications with both Washington and the Houthis, the Sultanate had brokered an agreement under which neither side would target the other, including U.S. ships in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandeb Strait. The goal, the ministry said, is to ensure smooth commercial shipping and free navigation.

As part of the Arab response, Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed appreciation for Oman’s initiative and praised Muscat’s diplomatic role. The ministry said the agreement falls within broader efforts to support peaceful dialogue and constructively resolve regional crises.

Baghdad called for intensified efforts to bolster security and stability, encouraging the narrowing of differences between parties to achieve mutual understanding. It emphasized the need to support initiatives that reduce escalation in Yemen and help end the humanitarian suffering of the Yemeni people.

Jordan, for its part, described the agreement as an important step toward easing regional tensions. It underscored the importance of supporting all initiatives aimed at promoting peace and stability, emphasizing that diplomatic solutions must be the primary approach to resolving disputes. Jordan also reaffirmed its support for any efforts that enhance regional and international security.

In a similar vein, Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement welcoming Muscat’s initiative and expressing hope that the agreement would facilitate navigation and ease commercial shipping. Kuwait reiterated its support for dialogue as the sole means of resolving regional disputes and praised Oman’s constructive role in mediation.

Qatar also welcomed Oman’s diplomatic success, affirming that the agreement reflects the Sultanate’s positive role in supporting peace. Doha expressed hope that it would help restore freedom of navigation and ease maritime trade, while reaffirming Qatar’s commitment to dialogue as the main tool for resolving regional crises.
