U.S. State Department Warns Against Supporting Houthis

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The U.S. State Department has issued a strong warning to countries and commercial entities against providing any form of support to foreign terrorist organizations, including the Houthi group in Yemen, emphasizing that such actions constitute a “clear violation of U.S. law.”

In an official statement, the State Department declared: “We will not tolerate any party that offers support to the Houthis, whether through funding or logistical assistance.” It specifically pointed to activities such as “offloading ships or supplying fuel at ports under Houthi control,” labeling them as violations of both international and U.S. laws.

Washington stressed that these warnings are part of a strict policy of zero tolerance toward activities that enhance the capabilities of groups designated as terrorist organizations, and it hinted at the imposition of sanctions on violators.

The U.S. decision to ban fuel imports through the Houthi-controlled port of Hodeidah officially came into effect on April 4, following the designation of the Houthi group as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and the imposition of sanctions on its senior leaders.

However, on April 7, the United Nations inspection office in Djibouti allowed a fuel tanker to enter Ras Issa port—one of the ports in Hodeidah under Houthi control—despite several days having passed since the U.S. ban on importing petroleum products into those areas took effect.
