Saudi-Funded Equipment for New Power Plants Arrives in Aden and Hadramawt

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Al-Wadiah border crossing between Yemen and Saudi Arabia witnessed the arrival on Tuesday of technical equipment and supplies for two electricity generation plants with a combined capacity of 300 megawatts (MW), designated for the governorates of Aden and Hadramawt.
The shipment includes equipment for two power stations with a total generation capacity of 300 MW, allocated as follows:
- 200 MW for Hadramawt Governorate
- 100 MW for the temporary capital, Aden
The move aims to help meet the growing demand for electricity in both governorates.
Videos circulating online showed a number of large trucks crossing through the Al-Wadiah border post toward Hadramawt and Aden, carrying the grant provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
This support comes amid a worsening electricity crisis in Aden and Hadramawt, where residents have faced prolonged power outages alongside extremely high temperatures. The deteriorating electricity service has sparked demonstrations and protests in both governorates.
The new power-generation equipment is expected to help reduce the energy deficit, particularly in Aden, where the additional 100 MW could ease shortages. The city currently suffers from an electricity shortfall estimated at around 50%. At present, Aden relies largely on the President Power Plant, which generates approximately 250 MW, while energy experts estimate that the city requires about 650 MW to fully meet demand and eliminate the deficit.
