Heavy Security Deployment In Mukalla Coincides With Protest Calls By Supporters Of The Dissolved STC

Yemen Monitor / Mukalla / Exclusive:
The city of Mukalla, the capital of Hadramawt Governorate (eastern Yemen), witnessed a heavy security deployment today, Saturday, across several streets and vital locations. This comes at a time when groups affiliated with the dissolved Southern Transitional Council (STC) called for protest demonstrations throughout the city.
Security authorities in Hadramawt issued official warnings confirming that no events or demonstrations may be organized without obtaining prior permits coordinated with the governorate’s security committee. They clarified that any illegal movements would be met with strict legal measures aimed at protecting public order and preventing any attempts to destabilize or disrupt public peace under the current circumstances.
A security source stated to Yemeni news agencies that these measures are part of ensuring the city’s stability and maintaining public security, stressing the need for citizens to cooperate with security forces to face any potential threats. He added that freedom of expression is guaranteed for everyone within the framework of the law, as long as these activities do not pose a threat to security or endanger the lives and property of citizens.
In contrast, the Second Military Region in Hadramawt issued an official statement warning citizens against participating in any unauthorized demonstrations. The statement read: “We warn brother citizens against participating or engaging in any demonstrations or unofficial gatherings that have not obtained the necessary legal permits from the competent authorities.”
It emphasized that any public event must be conducted according to legal frameworks and prescribed procedures to ensure the region’s stability and prevent any acts that might harm public order or endanger participants. The statement also stressed that certain parties might seek to exploit such unauthorized gatherings to achieve goals that could lead to chaos or undermine security, calling on citizens to exercise caution and adhere to local laws.
Furthermore, the statement warned that security agencies would take all legal measures against anyone violating these directives, noting the necessity of cooperation with local authorities to achieve security and stability.
For their part, security authorities in Hadramawt called on citizens to cooperate with the relevant agencies, emphasizing that maintaining security is a collective responsibility requiring everyone’s participation in protecting public order. They also confirmed that maintaining stability requires everyone to show a spirit of national responsibility and report any suspicious movements that might threaten social peace in the governorate.
This warning coincides with calls launched by the dissolved Southern Transitional Council for its supporters to take to the streets in Mukalla, following riots carried out by elements affiliated with the Council after a demonstration by the people of Mukalla in solidarity with Saudi Arabia against Iranian attacks.
