Presidential Leadership Council Dismisses Aden Governor and Appoints Abdulrahman Al-Yafei as His Successor

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Presidential Leadership Council issued Decision No. (5) of 2026 today, Wednesday, stipulating in its first article the dismissal of Ahmed Hamed Lamlas, Minister of State and Governor of Aden Governorate, from his position and his referral for investigation.

On the same day, the council issued Decision No. (6) of 2026 appointing Abdulrahman Sheikh Abdulrahman Al-Yafei as Minister of State and Governor of Aden Governorate. Both decisions are to take effect from the date of their issuance and publication in the Official Gazette.

These decisions come amid political and security tensions witnessed in the southern governorates over the past few days, following presidential decisions to revoke the membership of Aidarous Al-Zubaidi from the Presidential Leadership Council and refer a number of military leaders to trial, as well as the subsequent military escalation and airstrikes that targeted camps and weapons depots in the governorates of Al-Dhalea and Hadramawt.
