Release of 15 Yemeni Fishermen After Three Months of Detention in Eritrea

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

On Saturday, 15 Yemeni fishermen returned to Al-Khawkha District, south of Al-Hudaidah Governorate (western Yemen), after being detained for nearly three months by Eritrean authorities while fishing in the Red Sea waters, according to local sources.

The sources stated that the fishermen arrived at the fish landing center in Al-Khawkha, ending a period of anxiety experienced by their families, who had lost contact with them since they departed the center on April 12th.

The families and relatives of the returning fishermen welcomed them at the fish landing center amidst an atmosphere of joy, following their release and safe return.

According to the sources, the release operation came after efforts and communications led by fishermen’s elders and social figures, in coordination with relevant authorities, which resulted in their release and return to Yemen.
