Security Council to Hold Open Session on Yemen on Monday to Discuss Political and Humanitarian Developments

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The United Nations Security Council will hold an open briefing on Yemen next Monday, 13 July, under the agenda item “The Situation in the Middle East,” to discuss the latest political, security, and humanitarian developments in the country.

A representative of the UN Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs is scheduled to brief the Council, updating its members on developments in the Yemeni file and on UN efforts to support the peace process and advance an end to the conflict.

According to information published by the Security Council, the meeting was convened at the request of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Yemen to the United Nations, with the support of the Permanent Missions of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Kingdom.

The briefing is expected to address the latest political, security, and humanitarian developments in Yemen, amid ongoing tensions between the Yemeni government and the Houthi group and growing concerns over the collapse of the truce and a return to military escalation.

The session comes as the United Nations continues its efforts to revive the political process amid mounting security, economic, and humanitarian challenges and the continuing deadlock in achieving a comprehensive settlement to the conflict.
