Yemeni researcher Abdullah Mohsen honored with two Arab awards in heritage protection

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Yemeni researcher and prominent expert in tracking and documenting antiquities, Abdullah Mohsen, received two Arab awards this morning in recognition of his efforts to safeguard Yemeni heritage.

In a post on his Facebook account, Mohsen said he had been awarded the General Union of Arab Archaeologists Prize and the Sheikha Alyazia bint Nahyan Al Nahyan Award in the category of protecting archaeological sites and buildings from risks and armed conflict.

He indicated that the General Union of Arab Archaeologists, based in Egypt, originates from the Association of Arab Universities in Jordan, which includes all accredited Arab universities and was founded in 1965.

He explained that he shared the Sheikha Alyazia bint Nahyan Al Nahyan Award in the category of “Protection from risks and armed conflicts for archaeological sites and buildings” with Dr. Khaled Saad from Egypt.

The Sheikha Alyazia Award was divided into four sections: the Sharjah Antiquities Authority won the first section, the Mayasem Association for Culture and Arts in Gaza won the second, while Abdullah Mohsen from Yemen and Dr. Khaled Saad from Egypt shared the third. The fourth section went to engineer Tarek Talal from Syria for his project to reconstruct Aleppo.

It is worth noting that Abdullah Mohsen is an independent Yemeni researcher and a specialist in monitoring and tracking smuggled and looted Yemeni antiquities. His name has gained significant prominence in recent years as one of the most trusted sources exposing the sale of Yemen’s historical treasures in global auctions.
