Yemen Monitor / Al-Mahra / Exclusive:
Three members of the Yemeni Army forces, including a female police officer, were injured today, Monday, in Al-Mahra governorate (eastern Yemen), following clashes between army forces, supported by security elements, and armed groups believed to be linked to smuggling gangs.
Local sources told “Yemen Monitor” that the clashes occurred after a campaign by Military Police and security forces set out to raid a residential building (“villa”) on Al-Ghaydah Corniche, after it was suspected of being used by smuggling gangs.
The sources added that armed elements clashed with the Army and security forces, resulting in the injury of two police soldiers in addition to one female security element who was accompanying the campaign.
The sources reported that the city is experiencing security tension, with a heavy deployment of Army and security forces and the establishment of checkpoints in a number of areas within the governorate’s capital.
