Seizure of Iranian Weapons Shipment Bound for the Houthis and Arrest of 8 Crew Members

Yemen Monitor /Newsroom:

The joint security campaign in the Al-Madhariba and Ras al-Ara districts of Lahj Governorate seized an Iranian vessel carrying weapons and Iranian-made products that was headed toward areas controlled by the Houthi group, and detained the ship’s eight crew members.

A source in the security campaign said that the Iranian ship was intercepted near Bab al-Mandab Strait after close monitoring and tracking of its movements as it attempted to infiltrate Yemeni territorial waters. The vessel was stopped and thoroughly inspected.

The source explained that the ship had departed from Iran’s Bandar Abbas port and was bound for Houthi-controlled regions, with a crew of eight sailors working under one of the Houthi leaders involved in a smuggling network.

The seized cargo included spare parts for drones (unmanned aerial vehicles) such as operating units and military-grade engines, precision control connectors and cables, as well as eight boxes of Iranian-made medicine produced by CinnaGen, including Pectuna®️ Pertuzumab 420 mg / 14 mL, a drug used for cancer treatment. The shipment also contained Iranian-origin food and consumer products under the Kahnoosh brand.

Presidential Leadership Council member Abdulrahman al-Muharrami praised the continuous achievements of the joint security campaign in combating and curbing smuggling along the coasts of Al-Madhariba and Ras al-Ara in Lahj Governorate.
