Socotra Concludes “Sustainable Climate” Forum with a Message of Hope to Protect Its Unique Natural Treasure

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

On Sunday evening, the activities of the “Sustainable Climate – Socotra” forum concluded in the Socotra Archipelago. The forum was organized as part of a national campaign to address environmental and climate challenges, with broad participation from local leaders, civil society activists, and the youth of the island, in an atmosphere blending the magic of nature with the vitality of youth.

The forum – set against the backdrop of what is known as a unique natural treasure on a global scale – witnessed active participation from community figures and representatives of civil society organizations, alongside a crowd of young people who brought innovative visions and ideas from the heart of the island. Socotra faces unique environmental challenges, most notably threats to biodiversity and rapid coastal changes.

This forum is part of the #Sustainable_Climate_Campaign in Yemen, organized by the “Green Sustainable Future Foundation” in partnership with the “Arab Center for Civil Society Sustainability” and the “Union of Green Climate Organizations for Development,” under the patronage of the Ministry of Water and Environment and the General Environment Protection Authority, and with the “Socotra Wildlife Association” as a key partner in the archipelago.

The forum was distinguished by its emphasis that the environment “is not a legacy we keep, but a responsibility we preserve for future generations.” The event represented a message of hope and a call to action to protect this unique archipelago and enhance the role of the local community in confronting the effects of climate change and building a more sustainable future.

Participants affirmed that “the voice of Socotra has risen from the sea waves, the mountains of Darsah, and the valleys of Diksam, carrying a message to the world that Socotra deserves to be protected, and we will protect it together.”

With this conclusion, the #Sustainable_Climate_Campaign continues its journey to other Yemeni governorates, uniting efforts for a greener, more resilient, and climate-just nation, paving the way for the major final conference scheduled to be held in Aden.
