Hadhramaut Governor Directs Development of Early Warning Center to Enhance Climate Disaster Preparedness

The Governor of Hadhramaut, Mabkhout Mubarak Bin Madhi, reviewed the development plan for the governorate’s Early Warning Center for Multi-Hazard Disasters and Climate Risks during a meeting with the center’s Director, Engineer Abdulrahman Hamid, and his deputy, Engineer Hussein Al-Amoudi.

During the meeting, the Director and Deputy Director presented a detailed report on the center’s activities over the past period, reviewing its efforts in monitoring weather conditions, issuing warning bulletins, and following up on natural disasters to alert citizens and minimize potential risks.

The officials highlighted the importance of expanding weather monitoring stations beyond the cities of Mukalla and Shihr to include additional areas in the governorate. This expansion aims to enhance the center’s ability to accurately track weather phenomena and support local authority efforts in protecting the population from climatic risks, which have increased in recent years.

Governor Bin Madhi praised the significant efforts of the center’s team, confirming continuous monitoring of weather developments across all districts of Hadhramaut and neighboring governorates. He stressed the local authority’s sustained support for developing the center’s capabilities and qualifying its staff.

The Governor added that cooperation with specialized bodies on climate change is a fundamental pillar for ensuring community protection and enhancing preparedness to face the increasing natural disasters, in light of the climate challenges facing the governorate.
