Taiz… Family of Iftihan Al-Mashhari and Sanitation Workers Set Up New Protest Tents Outside Local Authority Offices

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The family of the young woman Iftihan Al-Mashhari, in coordination with sanitation workers in Taiz city, has set up new tents outside the local authority offices in a renewed escalation of their growing demands.

This renewed sit-in comes days after the assassination of Al-Mashhari, a crime that shocked Yemeni public opinion, with some suspects still at large and unaccountable, according to the protesters.

Participants in the protest stressed that their continued peaceful escalation reflects their determination to achieve full justice in the case, emphasizing they will not back down until all those involved are arrested.

The sit-in carries two main demands: the first concerns justice in the case of Iftihan Al-Mashhari’s assassination, which has sparked widespread outrage in Yemen since it occurred last Thursday; the second concerns the demands of sanitation workers, who have joined the protests calling for the payment of overdue salaries and improvements to their deteriorating living conditions.

The current sit-in thus serves as a joint platform combining demands for justice for the slain young woman and economic rights for workers—forming a dual protest movement that rejects silence over negligence in matters of rights and law.
