The local authority in Al-Mahrah Governorate launched a wide-scale field campaign today to monitor and regulate commodity prices in wholesale and retail markets in the city of Al-Ghaydah, in conjunction with the notable improvement in the exchange rate of the national currency.
The campaign is being carried out in accordance with directives from the political leadership and relevant state ministries, with direct support from Al-Mahrah Governor Mohammed Ali Yasser and under the supervision of First Deputy Governor Mukhtar bin Awadh Al-Jaafari.
During the field inspection, Al-Jaafari explained that the campaign aims to ensure that the improved currency exchange rate is reflected in the prices of food and consumer goods, helping to alleviate the living burdens on citizens amid the country’s difficult economic conditions.
Participating in the campaign were Abdullah Khuddam, Director General of the Industry and Trade Office, Salem Awad Saidan, Director General of Al-Ghaydah District, along with representatives from the Public Prosecution, and judicial and security bodies. These teams conducted inspection tours across several markets to assess merchants’ compliance with official pricing.
The First Deputy Governor emphasized that strict measures will be taken against anyone proven to be manipulating prices or failing to clearly display pricing information, adding that the campaign will expand to cover all districts of the governorate.
For his part, the Director of the Industry and Trade Office underscored the importance of the campaign in strengthening oversight and preventing violations, noting that inspection teams are actively documenting infractions and addressing them in accordance with the law to ensure the protection of consumer rights.
