Nephew of Former Shabwah Governor Assassinated, Triggering Tribal Clashes Amid Security Vacuum

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
This Tuesday morning, Saqr Nasser bin Adiyo, the nephew of former Shabwah governor Mohammed Saleh bin Adiyo, was assassinated in an armed attack in the middle of a public market in the Habban district of Shabwah governorate, eastern Yemen.
Local sources reported that unknown assailants, driving a car, opened fire on the victim before fleeing. The motives for the crime remain unknown, and security authorities have remained silent on the incident.
Following the assassination, fierce clashes erupted between two families from the “Bin Adiyo” tribe, involving medium and heavy weapons. This caused widespread panic among residents, exacerbated by a clear absence of security forces. Initial reports indicate no human casualties at the time of this writing.
This incident is another indicator of what sources describe as an “unprecedented security breakdown” in Shabwah governorate. Recently, incidents of killing and revenge attacks have escalated due to the proliferation of armed groups and the multiplicity of security and military forces.
Local residents are demanding the swift apprehension of the perpetrators and the curbing of tribal tensions, asserting that the continued absence of state authority threatens to drag the governorate into further chaos and a return to tribal vendettas.
