Yemeni Journalists Syndicate Condemns Brutal Assault on Journalist Al-Hammadi, Demands Urgent Investigation

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate strongly condemned on Friday the brutal assault against journalist Mohammed Al-Hammadi, a correspondent for Suhail TV in Taiz Province, calling it a grave attack on press freedom and the safety of journalists.
In a statement, the syndicate’s Taiz branch said it had received a report from Al-Hammadi indicating that he was ambushed while returning to his home in Al-Shamayatayn District. An unidentified individual struck him on the head with a sharp object, causing severe bleeding and loss of consciousness, after which he was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The syndicate noted that the attack was linked to Al-Hammadi’s recent reporting on sensitive humanitarian issues in the province. It also revealed that Al-Hammadi had previously reported receiving direct threats from unknown numbers, but security authorities failed to take appropriate measures to protect him.
The statement urged security authorities in Taiz to launch an immediate and transparent investigation, apprehend the perpetrators, and bring them to justice. It warned that impunity would only encourage further attacks on journalists.
The syndicate reaffirmed its full solidarity with Al-Hammadi and stressed the urgent need to protect all journalists and hold accountable those who infringe upon press freedom.
