Taiz Governor Discusses Strengthening Sustainable Humanitarian and Development Interventions with Swiss Agency

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Taiz Governor Nabil Shamsan met today with Nadine Andrea Yaghi, Program Officer at the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, to discuss ways to enhance sustainable development and humanitarian interventions aimed at alleviating the impact of war on the province and its residents.
At the beginning of the meeting, Governor Shamsan welcomed the agency’s delegation and praised its humanitarian efforts—particularly the implementation of a damaged housing rehabilitation project, which has enabled a number of displaced families to return to their homes. He emphasized the importance of moving forward with the second phase of the project, along with initiating targeted interventions that would deliver immediate and tangible benefits to citizens.
The governor also expressed the local authority’s readiness to provide all necessary support to facilitate the agency’s programs. He called for support in the sanitation sector and improvements to environmental infrastructure, including relocating the waste dump site from Al-Dhabab area, due to its environmental and health risks—especially with plans to establish a waste recycling plant in the region.
Governor Shamsan described the Swiss Agency as one of the most prominent international partners in the humanitarian and development fields, expressing the local authority’s eagerness to expand cooperation in the coming period.
For her part, Nadine Yaghi explained that her visit aimed to assess the projects implemented—chief among them the housing rehabilitation project—and to monitor ongoing work through local partners. She noted that the agency is currently preparing a new package of projects and interventions scheduled for implementation in the near future.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Fahd Al-Nadhari, Director General of the Public Health and Population Office; Abdu Ali, Director General of the Social Affairs and Labor Office; a representative from the Planning and International Cooperation Office; and Arif Al-Yousifi, Director of Salah District.
From the Swiss Agency’s side, the meeting was also attended by Fadi Al-Maqet, National Program Officer; Tara Fletcher, Head of External Relations; and Muammar Alwan, Field Officer at the UNHCR.
