Socotra Receives 7.5 thousand Tons of Diesel as Part of a Saudi Grant to Support the Electricity Sector

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Socotra Archipelago Governorate has received a shipment of fuel amounting to 7.5 thousand tons of diesel, provided by the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY), as part of support to operate electricity stations and ensure service continuity during the monsoon (windy) season.
The support aims to cover the needs of the generation stations in the archipelago during the coming months, ensuring the continuity of electricity supplies and reducing the impact of the climatic and seasonal conditions that Socotra witnesses annually, which last for about four months.
The provision of fuel to electricity stations in Socotra comes within the support programs implemented by the Saudi program for the energy sector in Yemen, which include providing petroleum derivatives to more than 70 electricity stations in a number of governorates, with the aim of enhancing service stability and supporting vital facilities linked to energy.
According to Saudi media, the oil grants provided by Saudi Arabia to Yemen over the past years included grants worth $180 million in 2018, $422 million in 2021, and $200 million in 2022, in addition to the current grant for the year 2026, within the framework of efforts to support the sustainability of basic services and promote economic recovery.
