Yemenia Airways Takes Urgent Measures After Collision Grounds Aircraft at Aden Airport

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

Yemenia Airways, Yemen’s sole national carrier, announced a series of management changes on Wednesday, affecting its ground services leadership at Aden International Airport. This decision comes after a recent incident where a passenger stair truck collided with the wing of one of its aircraft as it was preparing for takeoff, temporarily grounding the plane.

A decision issued by the company’s Chairman of the Board, Nasser Mahmoud, under number (34) for the year 2025, appointed Ihab Mohammed Abdulqader as the Executive General Manager of Yemenia Ground Services in Aden, with Munir Mohammed Kanji as his assistant. Additionally, Fahmi Mohammed Ahmed was assigned to manage the Aden station, and Ahmed Nasser Al-Alwani was put in charge of station affairs, as part of a restructuring following the dismissal of the previous management team.

According to the decision published on the Ministry of Transport’s media office page, the changes were based on “repeated failures and poor performance by the ground services crew, which led to a series of problems, the latest of which was the recent incident that caused technical damage to one of the aircraft and put it out of service.”

The incident, which occurred on Monday, sparked widespread reactions on social media platforms, with sharp criticism directed at both the airport management and the operating company. This comes amidst a chronic crisis facing Yemenia, which now relies on only three aircraft after losing four planes that were under Houthi control and another being destroyed during recent Israeli airstrikes on Sana’a Airport.
