Yemeni President: Confronting The Houthis Is A National Duty… The Role Of Legitimacy Is Indispensable

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, emphasized the importance of national unity and strengthening the cohesion of the political front to face current challenges. He stressed the need to present the legitimate government as a reliable partner to the international community and to expose the Houthi threat to international peace and security.

This came during an expanded meeting held on Tuesday, in the interim capital Aden, between President Al-Alimi and the Chairman of the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission, Mohammed Al-Ghaithi, along with his deputies and the secretaries-general of political parties and components represented in the commission. The meeting aimed to discuss recent developments in Yemen amid rapidly evolving regional and international dynamics.

At the beginning of the meeting, Al-Alimi pointed to a positive shift in the international position on the Yemeni issue, highlighting the legitimacy’s success in correcting the political and media narrative to reveal the true nature of the Houthis—not as a peace-seeking party, but as a constant source of threat.

He added, “We have presented the Yemeni state project and the aspirations of the people in the best possible way, through a discourse that reflects values of peace, development, and partnership with the international community,” stressing that national consensus is a vital element in shifting the balance of power on the ground.

During the meeting, President Al-Alimi briefed the Commission’s leadership on the major economic and service-related challenges resulting from ongoing Houthi attacks on oil facilities and the suspension of exports. He noted the government’s efforts to mitigate the effects of the crisis and improve public revenues.

He also addressed the security efforts underway to thwart Houthi attempts to infiltrate the internal front and their collusion with terrorist organizations, praising the preparedness of the armed forces and all military formations for the battle to restore the state.

Al-Alimi affirmed, “The Presidential Leadership Council is open to realistic initiatives aimed at managing the upcoming phase in a way that meets the aspirations of all Yemenis and advances the project of a unified and just state.”

The meeting comes within the context of reinforcing national solidarity and consolidating international legitimacy for the Yemeni government, amid escalating Houthi threats in international waters and an unprecedented intensification of U.S. strikes on the group’s positions inside Yemen.

On Monday, the leadership of the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission and several political party leaders met with the Saudi ambassador to Yemen. The two sides discussed the latest political and economic developments in the country.

Saudi Ambassador Al Jaber affirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting all efforts aimed at achieving security, stability, and development in Yemen. He noted that the meeting was part of ongoing Saudi efforts to support peace and comprehensive national reconciliation.

For his part, the Deputy Chairman of the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission, Abdul Malik Al-Mekhlafi, praised the Kingdom’s role in supporting Yemen and its people at all levels, affirming that the meeting reflects the strategic fraternal partnership between the two countries to achieve peace, stability, and development.
