Yemen Recovers Artifact Dating Back to the 1st Century BC

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Yemen has successfully recovered a Qatabanian artifact dating back to the 1st century BC from the grandson of a former British army officer.
The Yemeni Embassy in UK announced via “X” platform that the artifact had been in the possession of Craig Griffiths, who stated in correspondence with the embassy that he inherited the piece from his father, Dr. Gareth Griffiths.
Dr. Gareth Griffiths served as an officer in the British Royal Air Force in the Emirate of Beihan, located in Shabwa Governorate. He received the artifact as a gift from a relative of the ruler of Beihan after treating him for an illness.
A specialist in antiquities in the city of Aden noted that this is the first time a Yemeni artifact has been recovered from a British army officer, whose forces were present in Aden and southern governorates for 129 years until their withdrawal on November 30, 1967.
Yemen continues its efforts to recover antiquities that were removed from the country, with many having been spotted in public auctions across Europe and the US.
