US Ambassador: Washington Committed to Supporting Peace in Yemen and Restoring Maritime Security

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The US Ambassador to Yemen, Stephen Fagin, reaffirmed the U.S.s’ unwavering commitment to working towards a comprehensive political solution that ensures the stability of Yemen. He also emphasized the US support for restoring maritime security in the Red Sea.
This came during a reception hosted by the US Embassy on the occasion of the 249th National Day of US Independence, attended by the Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Muammar Al-Eryani, and a number of official figures.
Ambassador Fagin clarified that the attacks launched by the Houthi group on global shipping lines have hindered efforts aimed at achieving peace and stability in the region.
He affirmed that the focused airstrikes carried out by the US accurately target only the military capabilities of the Houthis, not civilians, with a focus on destroying their military installations, weapons depots, and command centers.
He pointed out that the US is working relentlessly to prevent the flow of Iranian and other weapons to the Houthis, in addition to intensifying cooperation with its regional partners to ensure the cutting off of funding to the Houthi group, noting that these efforts continue to support the restoration of maritime security in the region.
In contrast, a US Department of Defense official said that his country has bombed more than 100 targets in Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen since the start of its recent air campaign against the group, which he described as Iranian-backed.
These US airstrikes come after orders issued by US President Donald Trump to his country’s army to launch a “major offensive” against the Houthi group, before threatening to “eliminate them completely.”
