U.S. parliament members Demand Halt to Yemen Attacks and Provision of Legal Justification

Yemen Monitor – Newsroom:

A group of U.S. parliaments has called on President Donald Trump’s administration to halt unauthorized attacks on the Houthis in Yemen and demanded a legal justification for the recent strikes on the armed group.

In a letter to the White House, first published by The Intercept, more than 30 Democrats — led by Representatives Pramila Jayapal, Ro Khanna, and Val Hoyle — emphasized that presidents must obtain congressional approval before declaring war or using military force.

The letter stated:

“While we share concerns about maritime security in the Red Sea, we urge your administration to immediately cease the unauthorized use of military force and to seek specific legal authorization from Congress before engaging in an unconstitutional conflict in the Middle East, which could endanger U.S. troops and lead to a war for regime change.”

The letter also stressed the importance of allowing Congress the opportunity to engage in serious debate over the justification for offensive force and to vote on its merits before putting service members at risk.
