Hunger and Disease End the Life of a Displaced Woman in Abs Camp

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The wife of a displaced man known as “Abu Hashem” passed away in a displacement camp in the Abs District of Hajjah Governorate, just a few weeks after the death of her husband, following a long struggle with disease and hunger, according to journalist Issa Al-Rajhi.

Al-Rajhi had launched an urgent humanitarian appeal yesterday to save the woman and provide her with the necessary healthcare and food assistance, warning that her deteriorating health conditions could lead to her death at any moment. However, the appeal did not receive a sufficient response, and her life ended today, joining her husband.

Al-Rajhi explained that the family lived under extremely harsh humanitarian conditions inside the camp, suffering from a severe lack of food and medical care. He pointed out that her story represents a model of the suffering of thousands of displaced families facing tragic conditions amid a decline in humanitarian aid.

He emphasized that what was documented reflects only a fraction of the reality lived by the displaced in the camps, where stories of illness, hunger, and poverty are repeated among thousands of families struggling to survive.

This incident comes at a time when humanitarian organizations are warning of a worsening humanitarian crisis in Yemen amid a decline in funding allocated for relief programs, threatening the lives of an increasing number of displaced persons and the most vulnerable groups.
