Saudi Arabia: Missile Launched from Yemen Deviated from Its Course and Fell Near the Border

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense stated that a ballistic missile launched from Yemen early Monday was not targeting Prince Sultan Air Base. According to the ministry, technical investigations indicated that the missile was originally aimed at another country in the region before deviating from its intended trajectory due to a technical malfunction.

In a statement carried by official Saudi media, the ministry said the missile failed during flight and veered off course, leading to initial and inaccurate indications regarding its intended target. The missile ultimately landed in an uninhabited area near the Saudi-Yemeni border without causing any damage or casualties.

The official spokesperson for the Saudi Ministry of Defense, Turki Al-Maliki, denied reports claiming that Prince Sultan Air Base had been targeted. He explained that the activation of warning sirens in Al Kharj was a precautionary measure following the detection of the missile launch.

Al-Maliki added that technical reviews and preliminary investigations concluded that the missile had been heading toward another regional state but experienced a malfunction that caused it to leave its designated flight path.

He noted that the relevant authorities are continuing their investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible for the launch.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Houthi Movement announced that it had launched a batch of missiles at what it described as “sensitive targets” in the Jaffa area of central Israel, while also declaring a ban on Israeli shipping in the Red Sea.
