Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Chairman of Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad al-Alimi, chaired a mini-cabinet meeting on Saturday to discuss urgent measures to address the electricity crisis in Aden, secure essential services, and fulfill citizens’ living needs.

The meeting approved the immediate provision of fuel supplies to the temporary capital, Aden, in order to increase electricity generation capacity during the current summer months. It also linked the Saudi oil derivatives grant, valued at $150 million, to a strict operational plan aimed at improving production efficiency and enhancing financial collections.

The meeting reviewed the emergency response to the issues of public-sector salaries and power outages, as well as economic performance indicators and the progress of comprehensive institutional reforms. It also assessed the impact of recent international support, particularly the World Bank’s new strategy for Yemen and the Saudi fuel grant for the electricity sector.

The head of the Presidential Leadership Council stressed the need for a comprehensive review of the performance of all revenue-generating institutions and called for expanding partnerships with the private sector to strengthen public revenues. He also instructed the government to provide periodic assessments of measures taken to combat smuggling, close corruption loopholes, and improve the efficiency of public spending.

The meeting was attended by Presidential Leadership Council members Sultan al-Aradah and Salem al-Khanbashi, as well as the Prime Minister. The participants approved a government media program aimed at regularly informing citizens about the progress of reforms and the results achieved on the ground.
