Organization: 100 Detainees Face Harsh Conditions in Houthi Prisons in Dhamar, Central Yemen

Yemen Monitor/ Newsroom:

A human rights organization has renewed its demand for the immediate and unconditional release of more than 100 detainees held by the Houthi group in Dhamar Governorate (central Yemen).

Musa corruption for Rights and Freedoms stated in a report that more than 100 civilian abductees, including 20 young men who have received arbitrary death sentences, have been detained, with some held for over nine years.

The statement mentioned that the detainees are subjected to torture and live in difficult humanitarian and psychological situations under harsh and illegal detention conditions.

The organization emphasized that the abduction campaigns witnessed in Dhamar Governorate constitute a flagrant violation of basic rights and freedoms guaranteed under national laws and international covenants.

It called upon the United Nations, international organizations, and human rights bodies to assume their humanitarian and legal responsibilities regarding the issue of the abductees.

It pointed out that the file of civilian abductees in Yemen is considered one of the most prominent humanitarian issues that requires serious and urgent international action to address it and end the suffering of the abductees.

The Musawa Organization for Rights and Freedoms stressed the need to act to end all forms of arbitrary detention and enforced disappearance, stop all violations targeting Yemeni civilians, and work to hold violators accountable and achieve justice for the victims and their families.
